Suunto Assists Red Bull X-Alps Athletes in the World's Toughest Adventure Race
Suunto partners the world’s toughest adventure race, the 2011 Red Bull X-Alps, for the third time running. Thirty-two athletes from 23 different nations race 864 km non-stop through the Alps to the Mediterranean Sea. The race begins in Salzburg, Austria on July 17, 2011 and finishes in Monaco. In between are eight turnpoints in Austria, Italy, Switzerland, and France.
The new member of the award-winning Suunto Core family, the limited Alpine Edition, is perfect for alpine adventures such as the 864 km hiking and paragliding race, the Red Bull X-Alps. The new sporty model features a green bezel, which highlights the display. It provides the same reliable data as previous Core models by gathering the range of accurate data and information needed when exploring the wilder parts of the world. It’s easy-to-use interface, with simple navigation, results in better safety in harsh conditions. The Core Alpine Edition features the Core’s classic style and design with a special 75th anniversary engraving on the back.
Equipped with a Suunto Core and travelling by foot or flying with a paraglider alone, the athletes must fight their way through some of the world’s most beautiful and terrifying terrain. “The Suunto Core is the perfect tool for alpine adventure races such as the Red Bull X-Alps,” says Hannes Arch, Red Bull X-Alps mastermind. “It provides athletes with vital information on direction, weather conditions, and altitude.” The race goes on day and night, sun or snow, until the first pilot reaches goal.
